[WELLINGTON DUKE OF]: (1769-1852) Anglo-Irish Field Marshal, the Victor of Waterloo, 1815. British Prime Minister 1828-30, 1834. Waterloo Medal, a renamed example, engraved for Lieutenant Everard William Bouverie, Royal Horse Guards, issued to commemorate three battles of the Peninsula War. The obverse depicting the left facing effigy of the Prince Regent and to the reverse a figure of Victory seated on a plinth with the words 'WELLINGTON' above, and 'WATERLOO' and the date 'June 18 1815' below, with suspension and ribbon (faded). Presented in a medal box. Together with a modern 7.5 x 10 colour reproduction of a print of Bouverie standing in a full length pose in uniform, with a brief printed caption at the base stating that the print is taken from an engraving after the painting by Dubois Drahonet in the Royal Collection at Windsor. Framed and glazed in a modern frame to an overall size of 12.5 x 15.5. One light stain to the upper left corner of the print. Surface of both obverse and reverse of the medal is rubbed with some scratches and slightly deeper digs, and with a few edge knocks. G, 2 Everard William Bouverie (1789-1871) British Soldier, Equerry to both the Prince Consort and Queen Victoria. Bouverie fought in the Peninsula War and was present at the Battle of Waterloo, where he was wounded. Provenance: The original printed description from an unidentified catalogue is included with the lot, evidently torn from the catalogue when Mr. Peel originally acquired the present lot (seemingly for a hammer price of £520 as recorded in his hand).
