ALEXANDER I: (1777-1825) Emperor of Russia 1801-25. A very  good A.L.S., Alexandre , with a bold flourishing paraph, four pages, 8vo, 6th March 1823, to an unidentified lady, in French. Alexander sends a very gallant letter to his correspondent stating in part ` It was at the time I started my trip to Italy in the month of August that I received your letter Madame. I was far from thinking that you would value so much what I had the occasion to do, according to your wishes, for you. Weren´t you sure before that to accomplish your wishes will be on each occasion a real satisfaction for me?´ The Emperor further refers to his disappointment for not meeting her, and states ` These few lines have taken a long time to reach you, and going myself to Italy I was feeding the hope of meeting you there. This hope only vanished when I started my trip return home. Now I learn that you are in Paris!..´ Further again Alexander sends one more close message saying `.. please tell yourself that whether far or close from each other, my wishes are with you constantly..´ Paper with watermark.
