Large Cents
1796 S-99 R5 Draped Bust, Reverse of 1795, VF Detail, Scratch, PCGS. A nicely detailed cent, a bit sharper on the obverse than on the reverse, but there are contact marks on otherwise smooth surfaces. The notable marks are a pair of rather strong nicks high on the neck and a diagonal scratch from the F in OF to the N in UNITED. Other smaller contact marks are present on both sides. Glossy chocolate brown and steel. Late die state with a strong crack through the B and ribbon to the rim creating a raised retained cud break outside the crack. The date and legends are complete and clear. Graded F15 net VG8 and tied for CC#13 in the Noyes census, his photo #25522. Bland says F15 net VG10 and tied for CC#8. This cataloger's EAC grade is net VG10. An impressive die state and it comes with a nice provenance. The attribution and Husak Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. 35831.95/47250187.

Al Boka reports at 1794largecents.com: "Pittsburgh in the 1920s and 1930s was a beehive of large cent activity. Borcky made major contributions to the hobby. His collection, which ranked alongside those of George Clapp and Henry Hines, was rich in die varieties and die states." His obituary notes that he was a retired grocery salesman.
