A PAIR OF TURQUOISE-GLAZED FIGURES OF BUDDHIST LIONS, KANGXI PERIOD
China, 1662-1722. Finely modeled as a male and female lion, each seated on its haunches with the head raised and mouth agape exposing teeth, sharp fangs, and a large tongue. A small cub clambers up the front legs of its mother, while the male is depicted with one paw resting on a brocade ball. Each detailed with curly hair, long floppy ears, clawed paws, and covered with a finely crackled turquoise glaze.
Provenance:
Swedish trade. Acquired from a private estate in the south of Sweden, by repute.
Condition:
Very good condition with some old wear and firing irregularities including small firing cracks, minor fritting.

Dimensions: Height 14.9 cm and 15.6 cm (excl. stand)
Each with an associated European fitted gilt-wood stand dating from the 19th century. (4)
