A high grade example of this popular type from Ceylon (modern-day Sri Lanka). This is the purple variety of the 5 Rupees (also printed in orange, see the next lot) and it is very scarce in the best of grades. This series is notorious for having foxing and other issues, and finding one at this grade level is very difficult. This is by far the nicest of this type that we hav handled.
