Ancients
Trajan (AD 98-117). AV aureus (20mm, 7.14 gm, 7h). NGC Choice XF 5/5 - 3/5, Fine Style, brushed. Rome, AD 114-117. IMP CAES NER TRAIAN OPTIM AVG GER DAC PARTHICO, laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Trajan right, seen from behind / REGNA•AD-SIGNATA, Trajan, bareheaded and in military dress, seated left on sella castrensis set on platform on right, extending right hand; officers standing to left and right, the one on left holding spear; on the ground to left below stand three kings facing Trajan, the foremost holding out his right hand to receive a diadem. RIC II 367. Calicó 1079. A phenomenal example with a perfectly centered strike with full legends on a brightly lustrous flan. With a highly detailed and Fine Style portrait of Trajan on the obverse and a detailed reverse showing dimensionality between closer and further figures.

During the reign of Trajan, the boundaries of the Empire were the farthest that they ever were both before and after. This coin is a fantastic and historically significant type depicting Trajan's victories in the East over Armenia, Mesopotamia, and Parthia. The emperor is awarding a diadem to Parthamaspates, son of Parthian emperor Osroes I, assigned to manage the freshly conquered territories.
