A rare Henry VII/VIII oak boarded chest, circa 1490-1520Having a one-piece hinged lid, framed by a band of wide and deep single-reeding to simulate panelled construction, the front profusely chip-carved, with a paired lancet-filled arch, centred by a whorl-filled oculus, and with leafy-carved spandrels, a lattice reserve carved below the central iron lockplate, the sides descending to V-shaped cutaway supports, traces of original red-paint decoration, very good colour and surface patination, 116.5cm wide, 40.5cm deep, 55cm high
